Traffic plan devised to avoid gridlocks in Kohat
KOHAT: A comprehensive traffic plan has been chalked out to check traffic jams and ease rush on the main city roads by allotting parking stands to the public transport.
In this regard, a meeting was held at the office of district police officer Sohaib Ashraf which was attended by assistant commissioner Mohammad Omair, officials of the traffic police and tehsil municipal administration and secretary road transport Qaiser Naz.
They decided to declare the old bus stand as the main stop for the transport plying between the city and Afghan refugee camps, Kotal Town, Kharmato, Bilitang, Togh Bala, Nasratkhel and Mohammadzai localities.
Due to unplanned traffic the main artery between KDA Town and Bannu bazaar remained choked for hours from afternoon till evening, causing great hardships to the motorists and commuters.
Meeting approves new stations for local transport
Similarly, the vehicles of Lachi and Shakardarra being parked in the city’s chicken market would now use the old bus stand as their station. All the handcarts have been shifted from the old bus stand to Shinokhel gate at Boraka stop.
Likewise, the old cattle market has been declared as the main stop for the traffic using the routes on Hangu road. Route stickers would be allotted to transport so they could not use other routes to avoid rush.
The DPO warned that those violating the traffic plan would be dealt with an iron hand.
