Bilawal seeks people’s opinion on how to revive PPP

ISLAMABAD: After dissolution of all party organisations, Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari sought on Friday people’s opinion in a questionnaire how to revive the party which had faced worst debacle in the last general elections in 2013.

In a letter addressed to the people, the PPP chairman sought answers to six questions raised in the questionaire.

PPP Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira unveiled the letter at a press conference at the PPP media centre on Friday.

“The PPP chairman has asked people in the letter to give their opinion how to take the PPP forward in the present situation and challenges,” Mr Kaira said. The questions asked by Mr Bilawal to the people are:

(1) What in your (people’s) understanding are the PPP’s core goals and how far the party has come in reaching these milestones?

(2) How can the PPP retain its fundamental values while responding to emerging challenges?

(3) What are principal challenges the party faces today and what are key challenges the country faces today?

(4) How in your view the party’s organisational structure at different levels can be improved?

(5) How can the internal and external communication of party be made more effective?

(6) What would be the economic, social and political priorities of the party as it gears up to face challenges of the future? Please indicate three priorities for the party to immediately focus on and three or more for long-term policy making.

In the letter, Mr Bilawal said: “I am keenly aware of the challenges that Pakistan society has gone through over the last five decades.

“I also realise that the path ahead is fraught with global, national and local issues, some of them grave in nature and scale.”

Talking to Dawn, PPP spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar said that reorganisation and elections of any political party of the PPP’s stature were not an easy task and, therefore, after the dissolution of the party organisations separate province-wise committees had been formed to restructure and re-organise the party.
