Mian Mir accident: underage car driver booked

LAHORE: Two motorcyclists killed in an accident at Mian Mir Bridge late on Friday night were laid to rest in their respective ancestral graveyards on Saturday.

Abdullah, 22, of Qadri Colony, Walton, and his friend Muhammad Zaman, 23, of Kamoki were on their way on a motorcycle when a speeding car crossed the road divider and hit them. Both suffered critical injuries and died on the spot.

Both were working as computer operators in Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.

North Cant police reached the spot and arrested the driver identified as Ibrahim, 16, son of an industrialist Irfan Ahmed, and registered a case against him.

In-charge Investigation Inspector Ghulam Saqlain Gondal told Dawn that Ibrahim and his classmate were going to home on a car after having dinner at a restaurant.

He said the boy was driving the car and the girl was sitting beside him when he lost control over the vehicle.

A number of relatives gathered at the house of the man who was killed in the accident.

Abdullah’s father Shafqat fell unconscious after burying his son in Walton graveyard and was not available for comment.

A middle-aged woman who visited the house of the victim told this reporter that a month back two teenagers of the locality also became victim of reckless driving.

“One was killed on the spot and other succumbed to his injuries after two-week treatment in hospital,” she said.

She said the driver who hit them was also son of an industrialist and no action was taken against him.
