Army chief

Action speaks louder than words and our army chief has practically proved it right by dismissing from service many senior army officers for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices. They have also been ordered to return the plundered money earned through the misuse of their positions.

Now moral pressure is building on the head of our government to clarify the sources of the hefty amount of money which has been made available to the prime minister’s children for investment in offshore business apparently for secrecy and tax evasion.

Demands for a probe into the funds collected by his children are growing and may escalate further now when so many army officers have been sacked for their involvement in financial corruption.

However, our prime minister still denies that any member of his family is involved in financial corruption. He must remember that there is no smoke without fire.

An impartial and transparent accountability process should be initiated.

RECENTLY the Chief of Army Staff has dismissed a number of army officers from service over corruption charges. They include a lieutenant-general, a major-general, five brigadiers and a lieutenant-colonel. This is a great effort and a necessary step taken by the army chief.

This way the COAS has taken an unprecedented step against corruption and set an example for other public institutions. Now it’s necessary for the civilian government to start an operation against corruption.
