PPP lawmakers hunt deers defying ban

MITHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmakers are reported to have defied the ban on hunting by killing five deer of a rare specie in Nagarparkar area of Tharparkar district on Tuesday.

Sources tell Dawn that PPP lawmakers Fakeer Sher Mohammad Bilalani, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah and Sardar Khan Chandio killed five five deer in a game sanctuary in Nagarparkar.

Sources add that the besides hunting deer, the hunting party also killed some other rare animals reportedly without a permit from the concerned functionaries of wildlife department. Neither any case has been registered so far nor any other lawful action initiated against the alleged influential hunters

Civil society members while talking to Dawn, strongly condemned the brutal act and the ruling party lawmakers' disregard for law.They were of the view that the ruling party members rather than focusing on the health issues children are facing in the district, are busy killing animals.

They demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan to the strong notice of notice of the hunting within the game sanctuary.

Dr Ramesh Vankwani,the chief of Pakistan Hindu Council and MNA of PML- N from Thar in statement issued to Dawn strongly condemned the killing of the deer by PPP law makers and demanded the registration of the FIR against those involved in the illegal hunting of endangered deer in Thar.

He not only condemned the 'shameful act' but also vowed to raise his voice against the illegal hunting in National Assembly.
