Layyah DCO made OSD; MS suspended

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has made the Layyah DCO an OSD and suspended the medical superintendent of the Layyah DHQ Hospital.

The chief minister took decisions while presiding over a meeting on Friday in which Chief Minister’s Inspection Team chairman presented an inquiry report into the tragic incident wherein 30 persons lost their lives due to poisoned sweetmeat.

Mr Shahbaz said that stern action would be taken under the law against the negligent officials.

He also directed the police to present a challan of the case against the accused in court at the earliest.

He also ordered to set up a high-powered committee to fix responsibility regarding negligence in the treatment of victims and directed that the committee should present its report as early as possible.

According to the inquiry report presented to the chief minister, Khalid, younger brother of shop owner Muhammad Tariq who confessed to having poisoned the sweetmeat, had been arrested.

Adviser on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, CM’s Inspection Team chairman, secretaries of Agriculture and Health departments, PFA director-general and officials concerned were present.
