Opposition stages walkout from Balochistan Assembly

QUETTA: The opposition continued its protest in the Balochistan Assembly on Monday against the mega corruption scandal in the province and staged a walkout from the house.

Leader of the Opposition Maulana Abdul Wasey and his deputy Zamarak Khan Piralizai told the house that the opposition would continue its protest and boycott of the assembly till the resignation of members of former chief minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch’s cabinet from the current cabinet. “We want their resignation,” he said.

Maulana Wasey said the involvement of Dr Malik in the scandal could not be ruled out because he had held the finance portfolio. It was a matter of Rs40 billion and several departments were involved in it, he added.

Responding to the allegation, Dr Baloch informed the house that he was not in charge of finance but had delegated powers to his advisers.

Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri said NAB was investigating the charges against the finance secretary and the matter was sub judice.

Speaker Raheela Hameed Durrani presided over the session.
