SC reinstates PML-N Sargodha lawmaker
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday set aside an election tribunal’s decision to disqualify an MNA belonging to the PML-N. The decision by a three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, resulted in the reinstatement of Chaudhry Hamid Hameed from Sargodha’s NA-66 constituency.
The bench released a short order on Tuesday. A detailed judgement will be recorded later.
The Faisalabad election tribunal had disqualified Hamid Hameed on a plea raised by Mumtaz Kahloon, his opponent and losing candidate from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, for hiding assets while filing nomination papers before the 2013 general election.
The tribunal declared him ineligible after learning that he had several undeclared properties and ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct a by-election in the constituency.
Chaudhry Hameed was elected MNA from NA-66 Sargodha-III on the PML-N ticket in the 2013 general elections.
