Quetta, Peshawar Fata, Lahore win in U-16 cricket
KARACHI: Quetta, Peshawar, Fata and Lahore all celebrated victories in the fourth-round matches of the PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars U-16 Tournament on Tuesday.
Quetta cantered to a 105-run success against Hyderabad on the last day of their two-day Pool ‘A’ clash at the SBP Sports Complex here in Karachi. Leg-spinner Latifullah was the star performer with a bag of 11 wickets.
Latifullah first took 7-42 as Hyderabad were dismissed for 116 in reply to Quetta’s first-innings tally of 203. He then hit a quick 42 not out to enable his side close their second innings at 118-6.
Hyderabad, chasing 206, were all out for 100 with slow left-armer grabbing five for 20 and Latifullah 4-23 to end up match figures of 11-65.
Peshawar clinched a nine-wicket victory over Faisalabad in the Pool ‘B’ match at the Bhutto Cricket Ground in Islamabad with all-rounder Saqib Jamil capturing five wickets for 27 runs in Faisalabad’s second innings of 117 all out.
Peshawar, who resumed their overnight first innings at 151-4, collected 253 in response to their rivals’ tally of 230.
Lahore thrashed Azad Jammu Kashmir by 10 wickets in their Pool ‘C’ game at the Aligarh Cricket Ground in Lahore.
Slow left-armer Fariduddin Mahmood wrecked Azad Jammu Kashmir’s hopes by snaring seven wickets for 22 runs in the second innings that ended at 79.
Leg-spinner Hasnain Hussain picked up five for 47 as Fata defeated Dera Murad Jamali by 57 runs at Lahore’s Stags Cricket Ground.
