Sindh culture highlighted on International Museums Day
HYDERABAD: Sindh University’s Institute of Sindhology organised a seminar on Wednesday to mark the International Museums Day.
It was presided over by Sindhi writer and intellectual Shaukat Hussain Shoro.
Prof Saeed Ahmed Mangi, in-charge director of the institute, traced history, purpose, scope and objectives of the day. He shed light on the commendable contribution made in this regard by the International Council of Museums (ICM). He discussed the role of museum of the Institute of Sindhology.
Shoukat Hussain Shoro in his remarks observed that it was for the first time that he was witnessing the world museum day being commemorated at such a grand scale.
He said museums all over the world served as the richest and most entertaining sources of promotion of education apart from perpetuating cultural heritage of societies they represented.
He appreciated efforts of Prof Mangi for taking lead in Pakistan to celebrate this day and be a part of world museum fraternity. He lauded support of Prof Dr Abida Taherani, vice chancellor of the University of Sindh, for supporting such important events. He proposed introduction of a guide book of the museum of the institute.
Others who also spoke on the occasion were Prof Ghulam Ali Buriro, Dr Farida Shaikh, Prof Naimatullah Khilji, Razia Tarique Abro, Miss Sadaf and Miss Marvi.
