BAHAWALPUR: The police authorities have submitted PC-I to establish a Dolphin Force in Bahawalpur to the Punjab government for approval.

The Bahawalpur city will be the second after Lahore to have the force to counter street crime.

Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Dr Ehsan Sadiq told Dawn on Wednesday that after the approval of the Punjab Planning and Development Department, work on the project would begin.

According to the plan, 1.7 acres on the premises of the district police lines have been earmarked for the construction of a four-storey Dolphin Centre at a cost of Rs132.813 million. Initially, 150 personnel will be recruited.

The launch of the force in Bahawalpur was announced by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif last month.

CAMP: All Pakistan Clerk Association activists, under the leadership of divisional president Attiqur Rehman Khokhar, observed a strike in some of the government offices, locked them and organised a protest camp at Farid Gate to press the government to accept their demands.

They demanded the revision of their pay scales in the budget with proportion of the rising prices of essential commodities. A large number of clerks participated in the camp.

PARK: Punjab Minister for Special Education Asif Saeed Manais inaugurated on Wednesday a park for the children with special needs on Darbar Road.

The park with swings, a fountain, mechanical animals, birds and a jogging track cost Rs10 million and was built by the Parks and Horticulture Authority.

The minister spoke of government’s measures such as provision of jobs for the welfare of the challenged children.

He said under a pilot project the challenged children were enrolled in normal schools in Bahawalpur and Muzaffargarh districts. After the success of the project, he added, the government had decided to extend the project to 11 other districts.

BOARD: The selection board of the Islamia University, Bahawalpur, at its seventh session continued the selection of faculty members on Wednesday.
