ISLAMABAD, Nov 21: Presi-dent Gen Pervez Musharraf on Friday announced remission of up to 90 days in the sentence of the prisoners on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, except those convicted in cases processed by the National Accountability Bureau.

An official announcement said the president under Article 45 of the Constitution on the advice of the prime minister had granted remission in sentences of up to 90 days to different categories of prisoners.

A remission of 90 days has been given to the prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment, except those convicted of murder, espionage, anti-state activities, sectarianism, Zina, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping, abduction and terrorist acts.

A remission of 45 days has been given to all other convicts, except the condemned prisoners and those convicted of murder, espionage, subversion, anti-state activities, Zina, robbery, kidnapping, abduction, terrorist acts and those undergoing sentences under the Foreigners Act.

The remission will be admissible only to those convicts who have undergone two-thirds of their imprisonment.

Total remission will be given to the men who are 65 years of age or above and women who are of 60 years of age or above, who have undergone at least one-third of their sentence, except those involved in culpable homicide and terrorist acts.

A special remission of one year has been given to women prisoners who have accompanying children and are serving sentences of imprisonment for crimes other than culpable homicide and terrorist acts.

Total remission has also been given to juvenile convicts who have served one-third of their sentence, except those involved in culpable homicide, terrorist acts, Zina, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping, abduction and anti-state activities.
