KARACHI: Former minister for petroleum Dr Asim Hussain in a video statement aired on local televison channels on Wednesday hurled startling allegations at former president Asif Ali Zardari’s foster brother Owais Muzaffar alias Tappi.

Dr Hussain said that former Sindh minister Owais Muzaffar was the ‘working’ chief minister of Sindh during the second term of the Pakistan Peoples Party and was involved in doing all sorts of corruption.

“Once a doctor told me that a Rs600 vaccine was bought for Rs1,000 but it was later sold in a market in Multan. When I investigated the case I found the allegations to be true. I complained about this to Zardari and asked him to stop Owais Muzaffar from playing with people’s lives, after which Owais hurled threats at me,” Dr Hussain said in the video statement.

Dr Hussain, a close aide of former president Zardari, was arrested by Sindh Rangers from the office of the Higher Education Commission in Clifton on August 26 last year.

A joint investigation team is investigating Dr Hussain’s alleged corruption and his role in terror financing.

The National Accountability Bureau is also investigating three new corruption cases against Dr Hussain.

The cases include illegal affiliation of medical colleges with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, issuance of licences for dozens of compressed natural gas stations and other corrupt practices.
