‘Govt taking steps for promotion of sports’

MARDAN: Provincial Minister for Sports and Culture Mehmood Khan has said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led provincial government has allocated Rs7 billion in the budget for fiscal year 2016-17 for the development of sports and welfare of sportsmen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said this while inaugurating projects, including construction of roof over swimming pool, internal roads and restoration of water supply scheme, at the sports complex here the other day.

He said that the development schemes at Mardan Sports Complex would cost Rs36 million.

The minister claimed that apart from constructing 76 grounds at tehsil level the government had also allocated funds for restoration of the existing sports grounds. “The government has planned to construct grounds for cricket, hockey, football, etc in various cities during the upcoming financial year,” he said.

Mehmood Khan claimed that the government would ensure provision of facilities to the players at the Mardan Sports Complex. H said that players would also be provided opportunities of learning and training.

VARSITY MEETING: The 17th meeting of syndicate of Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, approved upgradation and promotion of faculty members and staff of the varsity here the other day.

The meeting was chaired by vice-chancellor Dr Ihsan Ali and attended by higher education department’s representative Kaleemullah Baloch, government postgraduate college, Mardan, principal Prof Fayyaz Ali and other relevant officials.

Abiding by the recommendations of 16th meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, the meeting approved one-step promotion of administrative staff (BPS-17) and demonstrator (BPS-16).

It also gave extension to Dr Shahid Jan, chairperson Department of Management Sciences, as member selection board.
