‘Crime rate down in Bahawalpur division’
BAHAWALPUR: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bahawalpur Division Dr Ehsan Sadiq says the crime rate in the division has come down due to the Citizens Police Liaison Committees (CPLCs) and the situation will further improve with the performance of the police victim response officers (PVROs).
Meanwhile, in a meeting with the superintendents of police (SPs) of the three districts through a video link on Saturday, the RPO reviewed the crime situation during the last eighteen months.
He was briefed that during the given period, the charge-sheet in 214 murder cases out of total 425 had been submitted with the courts while the remaining 154 cases were under investigation by the newly-established homicide unit of police in coordination with the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.
ICE: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Ehtesham Anwar Mahaar has issued orders for all the ice factories in the district to use filtered water instead of tap water for the ice manufacturing.
The DCO told Dawn that the move was aimed at ensuring the supply of hygienic ice to the consumers as the tap water carried arsenic and other harmful substances.
Meanwhile, the ice factories owners, taking undue advantage of the DCO’s orders, have started using filtered water for the manufacturing of ice but unilaterally increased the price of an ice block from Rs400 to Rs800. As a result, the retailers have also increased the per kilogram price up to Rs35.
