Power poetry

For budding poets who want to showcase or polish his/her poetry writing skills, Power Poetry is a website that focuses on poetry and encourages the youth to write their own story in the shape of poems.

Power Poetry claims to be the world’s first and largest mobile poetry community for youth — a place where budding poets can be heard. The site is easy to navigate and kids can explore from the main menu through reading poems, participate in groups and get help from the resources like tips, poetic terms, mentors, styles, types, etc.

Everyone has their own unique style of writing so the section with ‘Tip guides’, tells kids about different poetic forms and styles and how they can keep their own style and get inspiration from around. The good thing is that all the poems shared on the site are written by the youth of American Academy of Poets and other contributors who are also young.

‘Action guides’, tell the kids about the power of words, how one can change the world through their words; and in ‘Slams’, kids can read about stuff that is going on around the world through poems, the current events happening in sports, society, about love or about peace that kids are writing across the world so users can also share their poetry but (after signing up).

The site claims to offer 10 scholarship slams a year; these slams are judged by site staff with cash prizes for the winners.

The site has lots of features to keep budding poets busy in penning down their thoughts and reading on the leader board, on international map of poems and on a database of local poetry groups across the US.

Remember kids, it’s not just about writing poems, it’s about finding your voice and using it to change the world!
