Death of child sparks protest in Kohat

KOHAT: The death of a sick child in a vehicle which was allegedly not allowed by the police to go to the hospital due to traffic rush sparked protest here on Sunday.

Naushad, uncle of the child Abbas, told mediapersons that they were carrying the child from Tappi on University Road to a nearby hospital. The traffic police standing near the PAF Cinema Chowk were diverting the traffic back from there due to rush in Miankhel Bazaar.

After much hue and cry by them the police allowed them to go, but when they reached the hospital the doctors told them that the child had already expired.

The relatives put the body on the road which resulted in long queues of vehicles on the busty University Road.

However, on the assurance of DPO Sohaib Ashraf that action would be taken against the responsible officials the road was opened to traffic after two hours. The DPO also ordered registration of an FIR against the officials concerned.

FIRING BANNED: All the stakeholders of Sherkot here on Sunday agreed to convince the people to avoid firing in the air on Chand Raat.

In this regard, a jirga of district councillors, liaison committees, elders and ulema was held under the auspices of Awaz Forum. It was chaired by chairman of the reconcialltory committee Manzir Hussain.
