SUKKUR: Jurisdictional change to be considered: PM: SHC Larkana bench

SUKKUR, Nov 28: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said the jurisdictional change of the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, will be considered in view of suggestions of lawyers and litigants.

The prime minister gave this assurance to lawyers of Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Shikarpur and other parts of the interior of Sindh who met him in Rojhan Jamali on Friday.

The lawyers informed Mr Jamali about problems and difficulties confronting them and litigants as they had to appear at the SHC, Larkana circuit bench, while it was feasible for them to appear at the Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court.

They demanded that the prime minister should ensure that cases of Jacobabad, Kandhkot and Shikarpur were heard in Sukkur.

The prime minister, while talking to a delegation of the Citizens’ Community Board of the Sukkur district led by its coordinator, Intizar Ahmad Shaikh, that also called on him on Friday, said the system of devolution of power was yielding positive results.

He expressed the hope that the system would prove useful for the people in the long run.

Mr Jamali said he would soon visit Sukkur and announce a package for the district like Karachi and Hyderabad.

He said his government attached special significance to the improvement of social and industrial infrastructure. He hoped the Citizens’ Community Board of Sukkur would extend its support to the district government in the social sector.

A delegation of journalists also met the prime minister to extend him Eid greetings.

Mr Jamali underlined the role of the Press in motivating the public opinion in a positive direction and assured journalists that the government would provide support to them in performing their duties.

He said journalists had the liberty to write against him or his government as this was a part of their professional duty but they should keep in mind the interests of the country.

He said a free Press could provide guidance to the government as it could learn from its mistakes and could know problems confronting the people.

The prime minister said the government was giving priority to raise the living standard of the people and it was focusing on education, health and communications.
