Six drown in Mardan and Chitral

MARDAN/CHITRAL: Six persons drowned in separate incidents in Mardan and Chitral districts on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 officials said that Iftikhar, resident of Pirano Deili area of Mardan drowned while fishing in a nullah near Sikandari Bridge. Search was still on to retrieve the body.

The 1122 officials said Gul Mohammad of Ghala Dhair and Sajjad hailing from the by-pass road drowned in a nullah in Ghala Dhair area.

They said they had retrieved both the bodies and handed them over to their relatives.

It is to mention here that Mardan Deputy Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh had, a month ago, imposed section-144 for three months banning swimming in nullahs and rivers.

In Chitral, police told Dawn that two persons drowned while swimming in the Chitral River near Raagh village on Sunday afternoon.

They identified the dead as Ali Raza of Lahore and his cousin, Assadullah, of Hone village of Chitral.

Their bodies were recovered by the local divers.

In another incident, Asghar Ali of Mardan district drowned in the swimming pool of a hotel in Garam Chashma.
