KASUR: District Police Officer Ali Nasir Rizvi said on Monday 37 hardened criminals were killed in 29 encounters with local police in six months, while police officials also suffered injuries in these encounters.

He told reporters that in the last six months, they had busted 38 gangs and arrested 129 gangsters.

Police also recovered narcotics and illegal weapons from criminals.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons, including a journalist, were killed in road crashes here on Monday, police said.

Journalist Muhammad Faisal was riding a motorcycle when near village Deo Sial, his motorcycle had a head-on collision with another motorcycle. As a result, Faisal died instantly, while the other motorcyclist, Tufail, suffered injuries and was admitted to a local hospital.

In another incident, Muhammad Shafi was going on his motorcycle along with his wife when a van coming from the opposite side hit them near Halla Road, leaving Shafi dead and his wife injured. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police are looking into the incidents.

BODY: Khudian police found on Monday the body of an unidentified woman in canal near Kalian Pul village.

According to police, the woman seemed to be in her 30s. Police shifted the body to the District Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy.

FLOODS: The district administration has taken measures to deal with any untoward situation in case of floods in the River Sutlej.

According to a handout by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Ammara Khan, a meeting of the officials of irrigation, Rescue 1122, police and livestock officials discussed preparations to cope with likely floods in the River Sutlej.

The DCO also ordered the officials to recheck the machinery, including boats, and issue fitness certificates to personnel.

On Monday, the water level in the Sutlej at Talwar Post was 7,000 cusec that is below the low level flood.
