Large parts of Mardan without power

MARDAN: As many as 15 feeders stopped working because of some technical fault in the grid station located on Mohib road here, causing power disruption in large parts of Mardan district for the last two days.

When contacted, superintendent engineer Abdullah Shah confirmed here on Tuesday that 15 electricity feeders had stopped working due a technical fault in the grid. He said that they had planned to provide two-hour electricity to each of the feeders till removal of the fault from the grid station.

Mr Shah, however, said that it could take two more days to completely restore the power supply. The power disruption caused severe shortage of water in houses and mosques in the district.

The areas affected by the power disruption due to non-working of feeders included localities on Malakand road, Mall road and Jawad road and Duranabad, Gari Kapoora, New Baghdada, Par Hoti, Bala Gari, Eidgah, Jaganaat, Shahdhand Baba, Gaju Khan and Zandu Dheray villages.

Protest demonstrations and rallies were also staged in some villages against the prolonged suspension of electricity. KILLED: A man was killed over a petty issue in Mayar area here on Tuesday.

Officials of Hoti police station quoted Asif Ali, brother of the victim, as saying that their rival Abbas allegedly shot dead his brother Naveed Umar (35) after exchange of hot words between them.

Police have started search for arrest of the accused after registering an FIR against him on the complaint of Mr Ali.
