US consul general calls on Ibad

KARACHI: The US consul general in Karachi, Brian Heath, called on Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan at Governor House on Wednesday and discussed matters of bilateral interest.

He also inquired about the health of the governor. The consul general was accompanied by political and economic chief Chad Peterson and Edward Burkhalter.

The governor said that after permission from doctors, he started official work fully. He said that Pakistan and the United States were on the same page in the fight against terror and the success of operation Zarb-i-Azb was before the world.

He apprised the US consul general of security steps and said that the law and order in Sindh was improving with the passage of time.

The governor said that the confidence of local traders and businessmen as well as that of the foreign investors was also being restored.

He also informed him about the recovery of the kidnapped son of Sindh High Court Chief Justice, saying that the recovery increased confidence of the people in the law enforcement agencies (LEAs).

The consul general congratulated him on the recovery of the son of the Sindh Chief Justice and praised the action of the LEAs.

He said with improvement in the law and order, investors would head for investment here. The American investors were already working on various projects.

Meanwhile, the United Nations’ Resident Coordinator, Mr. Buhne, and UNDP Resident Coordinator, Paul Martin, also called on the governor. They apprised him of the ongoing programmes of the UN in Pakistan.

The governor said that budget for the social development was being enhanced. The rural health programme was an important step, he added.
