Lawyers help suspect flee from court

LAHORE: An attempted murder suspect on Thursday managed to escape arrest with the help of his lawyers after an additional district and sessions judge rejected his plea for pre-arrest bail.

The suspect, Shah Hussain, a law student and son of lawyer Tanvir Hashmi, was booked by Civil Lines police on charge of injuring his female class fellow and her younger sister with a knife.

Accompanied by dozens of lawyers, Burhan Moazam Malik advocate appeared on behalf of Hussain and argued before the court that the case against his client was fabricated. He asked the court to allow the petition for bail before arrest.

Khwaja Adnan advocate represented the complainant and opposed the bail petition. He said the victims had identified the suspect. He said the suspect, Hussain, would misuse the concession of bail, if granted, delaying the investigation into the case.

After hearing both sides, AD&SJ Naseem Ahmad Virk dismissed the bail petition. A police team was already present outside the court to arrest Hussain; however, he easily slipped away with the help of his lawyers.
