NAB arrests Mardan varsity superintendent

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has arrested Zahid Mehmood, the then superintendent (BPS-17) of Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, presently posted as superintendent at the University of Swabi.

A statement issued here on Thursday said that the superintendent in connivance with others was allegedly involved in corruption, corrupt practices and misuse of authority in connection with illegal appointment and regularisation of 652 officials in Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan.

It was stated that the accused, Zahid Mehmood, performed his duties as superintendent in Abdul Wali Khan University from 2009 to 2012.

During his tenure he in connivance with others processed summary for illegal appointments and illegal regularisation of services of 652 contract officials by misquoting and misinterpreting the notifications of the provincial government issued in 2005 in different cadres in the AWKU.

The accused will be produced before the accountability court for obtaining his physical remand.

The Peshawar High Court has already restrained NAB from arresting Abdul Wali Khan University’s vice-chancellor Dr Ihsan Ali in the instant case.

A petition filed by Dr Ihsan Ali has been pending before the high court. In that petition he has challenged the issuance of call-up notice to him by NAB, asking him to appear at its headquarters for questioning in the case.
