Women varsity in Mardan gets own building

MARDAN: The Abdul Wali Khan University College for Women, Mardan, on Wednesday handed over its college building to the recently-established women university to open its classes.

A function in this regard was held here which was attended by Vice Chancellor of Women University Dr Ghazala Yasmeen, Vice-Chancellor Abdul Wali Khan University Dr Ihsan Ali and other officials concerned.

The participants said establishment of a women university in Mardan had been a longstanding demand of the local people.

They said development and progress of Pakhtun nation was linked to provision of education to both men and women.On the occasion, Dr Ihsan Ali said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the second province after Punjab where most universities had been established.

Dr Yasmeen said establishment of women university in Mardan would provide lot of opportunities to women of the district and other adjacent areas.

Relevant officials told Dawn that admissions at the Women University Mardan would start from September this year.

POLICE SACRIFICES RECALLED: Rich tributes were paid to the police personnel who died while combating terrorism and extremism to restore peace and normalcy in the province.

In this regard a camp was organised at Chowk Yadgar here on Wednesday to pay tribute to the fallen cops.

Commandant Punjab Regiment Centre Brig Mohammad Tariq Qadir Lakir, DIG Mardan division Mohammad Tahir Khan, DPO Faisal Shehzad and other officials were in attendance. Addressing the participants, Brig Tariq said sacrifices of police personnel could not be ignored while fighting terrorism and extremism.

He said August 4 would be observed as a special day to pay tribute to the fallen policemen.

Later, Tariq Lakir and DIG Mohammad Tahir distributed gifts and cash amounts among heirs of fallen policemen of Mardan.
