Torture on students: Local administration seals private school in Chitral

CHITRAL: The district administration on Wednesday sealed the private school in Drosh town after its principal was found involved in subjecting students to physical torture and was sent to jail on judicial remand after a video of the alleged torture went viral on the internet.

The administration of Chitral district sealed the "Learners' School" and put up a notice in this regard on the school's main gate.

Meanwhile, students registered a protest in front of Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Yousaf's office in the morning after finding out that their school has been sealed.

The assistant commissioner, while talking to DawnNews said, “The owner and principal of the school violated the law, therefore we have sealed the institute."

“It is too early to say anything about the fate of the school,” Yousaf said, adding that the parents of students have lodged requests to open the school so as to avoid wastage of precious time of their children.

“The action on this school is having an adverse impact on us,” said Sajjid Khan, a student of the school, adding that the government should punish the principal.

Sajjid said that the future of nearly 100 students was at risk and demanded of the district administration to open the school as soon as possible.

The parents also requested the district administration to open the school after holding a meeting with the assistant commissioner.

Drosh police arrested school principal Inam earlier this week, after a First Information Report under Child Protection Act was filed against him, and presented him before a judicial magistrate in Chitral.

The local court then sent the school principal to jail on judicial remand.
