Hindu doctor shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: A 56-year old doctor belonging to the Hindu community was shot dead in the Pak Colony area of the metropolis on Thursday.

“Dr Pireetam Das was sitting in his clinic located in Hasrat Mohani Colony at midnight on Thursday when someone attacked him,” said Akhtar Farooq, SSP Investigation West.

The police official added the doctor’s attendant had gone to buy a mobile card when the doctor was attacked.

The doctor sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest.

“Hearing the gunshot, the assistant rushed to the clinic and found the doctor bleeding,” added Farooq.

The assistant, with the aid of a friend, took him on a motorbike and later shifted him to a rickshaw to transport him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, elaborated the police official.

The doctor’s son, Mukesh Kumar, arrived at the hospital after being informed. Kumar shifted his father to Aga Khan University Hospital, where the doctor succumbed to his wound while under treatment.

SSP Investigation said the suspect(s) did not take any valuables. He added police were investigation the incident.

Pak Colony police have registered FIR 144/2016 under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against unknown suspects on complaint of the victim’s son.

Earlier, two members of the Hindu community were among three people shot dead in an attack on a wine shop in the Abbas Town area of the metropolis.
