SHC seeks govt comments on Kaimkhani’s bail plea
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed the prosecutor general and other provincial authorities to file their respective comments on the bail application of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) president Anis Kaimkhani in a case registered against Dr Asim Hussain and others.
The case was filed against Dr Asim for treating and harbouring the alleged terrorists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and gangsters of Lyari at his hospital.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Abdur Rasool Memon also issued notice to the Sindh law officer and put off the hearing to Aug 11.
The PSM leader was arrested and sent to jail after an antiterrorism court (ATC) rejected his bail plea in the case. MQM’s Karachi mayor-designate Waseem Akhtar and MPA Rauf Siddiqui, and Abdul Qadir Patel of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), co-accused in the case, were also arrested and sent to jail after rejection of their bail applications by the ATC.
Earlier, all the four accused had been given protective bail by the SHC.
