A day of funerals and condolences in Quetta

QUETTA: A day after a suicide bombing took the lives of over 70 people, Quetta on Tuesday was filled with scenes of funerals and condolence meetings.

Most victims of the horrifying attack were lawyers who had gathered outside the Civil Hospital in protest against the targeted killing of their colleague Bilal Anwar Kasi.

As many of the victims of the attack hailed from other cities and towns of Balochistan, the people witnessed throughout the day long queues of ambulances carrying bodies of the victims leaving the city.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali who reached Quetta on Tuesday visited the residences of Barrister Adnan Kasi, Dawood Kasi, Bilal Anwar Kasi and many other lawyers who lost their lives in the attack.

The chief justice condoled with the bereaved families and offered Fateha for the departed souls.

He termed the killing of lawyers a great tragedy for the country.

Balochisan High Court Chief Justice Noor Mohammad Meskanzai and senior judges also visited the residences of the slain lawyers.

Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri held a meeting with Justice Meskanzai at the Balohistan High Court.

He was accompanied by Home Minister Mir Sarfarz Ahmed Bugti and Chief Secretary Saifullah Chattah.

Besides Quetta, the victims of the attack hailed from Chaman, Loralai, Qila Saifullah, Muslim Bagh, Pishin, Nushki, Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Nasirabad and Turbat.

Former president of the Balochistan Bar Association Baz Mohammad Kakar was buried in Muslim Bagh and Sangat Jamaldani, a son of BNP-Mengal senator Jahanzeb Jamaldani, was laid to rest in Killi Jamaldani in Nushki district.

Tareen, Manzar Siddiq and many other lawyers were laid to rest in different graveyards of Quetta in the presence of hundreds of mourners,

Advocate Askar Khan Achakzai and Advocate Aimal Khan were laid to rest in Chaman. Askar Achakzai was a brother of Awami National Party leader Asghar Khan Achakzai.
