Court seeks govt reply in missing person’s case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday directed the ministries of interior and defence to submit detailed reply in a missing person’s case.

IHC Justice Athar Minallah also directed the intelligence agencies to cooperate with the police officer investigating the ‘enforced disappearance’ of Sajid Mehmood.

Mahera Sajid in her petition filed through her counsel Umer Gilani alleged that her husband, Sajid Mehmood, was “abducted from their home in F-10/1 amid circumstances which strongly suggest that this is a case of enforced disappearance”.

She cited secretaries of defence and interior ministries, inspector-general of the Islamabad police, chiefs of IB, ISI, Military Intelligence and the Shalimar Police Station SHO as respondents in the petition.

The petition has sought the recovery of Mr Mehmood, a father of three girls, who went missing from his residence on March 14, 2016. He said on March 14, around eight men barged into the petitioner’s house in Sector F-10/1 and took away Sajid.

She said some of the intruders were wearing a black police uniform with the insignia “No Fear” inscribed on it, while others were in plainclothes.

She said the men had come in a Land Cruiser and two double cabin cars and after searching the house for around 20 minutes, they allegedly took some of the family’s computers, couple’s academic certificates, property records, keys and registration book of petitioner’s car. The court would resume hearing of the case next week.
