Number of women hockey probables slashed
LAHORE: The number of probables, participating in the ongoing training camp for the fourth Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Cup scheduled to be held in Thailand from Oct 1 to 9, has been reduced to 35 from 60.
Nine teams being divided into two groups will be competing in the tournament with Pakistan being drawn into the pool A along with Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Indonesia and Uzbekistan while pool B has had Hong Kong China, Singapore, Brunei and Cambodia.
Talking about team’s preparation for the event, head coach of the women’s team Olympian Mohammad Usman said that players were doing hard training in the camp being in progress at the National Hockey Stadium despite the recent harsh weather conditions in the provincial capital.
With the women’s hockey being revived after four years, the head coach said it won’t be easy for the women’s team to excel, adding, however, that a well-balanced team would be finalised before the start of the event.
