30 booked for cutting TV cable in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: The Baghdadul Jadid police on Monday booked 30 people, including 17 nominated, for allegedly hurling life threats and suspending cable TV transmission at Himyatian Chowk near Satellite Town on Sunday night.

On the complaint of Inam Bari of Al-Noor Cables, Bahawalpur, Baghdadul Jadid police registered FIR No.419/16 under sections 506 and 427 of PPC against 17 suspects, including nine nominated, for hurling life threats and cutting wires.

The second FIR No.420/16 under the same sections was registered against 13 people, including eight nominated, on the complaint of Rana Kamran of City Cables.

The cases were registered after the cable firms went on a strike against suspension of transmission by their rivals.

Earlier, the firms’ owners alleged that police had refused to register cases against their rivals who cut wires and inflicted Rs100,000 worth of damage on their network.

After registration of cases, the operators resumed cable transmission. No arrests were made so far.

EID SECURITY: The district police have tightened security for Eid congregations at 389 points.

According to Acting DPO Ghulam Murtaza, as many as 2,234 police personnel in addition to 1,143 volunteers would be deployed at Eid gatherings.

He said the congregation points have been categorised. The category A includes 34 places, B (82) and C (273).

The deployed force includes six DSPs, 32 inspectors, 207 SIs and ASIs, 846 head constables and constables.

Elite Force and Quick Response Force would also perform duty at sensitive places.

The local police for the first time will deploy personnel at graveyards where a large number of people visit to offer prayers.

The traffic police have also finalised a plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement during Eid days.
