Constable injured in Swat IED blast

MINGORA: A constable sustained minor injuries after a police vehicle was targeted with improvised explosive device (IED) in Karakar area of Barikot tehsil in Swat on Monday.

According to Ghaleygey police, the mobile van was patrolling Barikot-Buner Road it was targeted by a remote controlled IED, planted along the road. The blast left the driver of the van, Muzamil Shah, injured.

DSP Sayed Zaman Shah said that the IED was planted along the road in Karakar village, bordering Buner district. “Four policemen including sub-inspector Wakeel Mohammad, two constables Niaz Mohammad and Nisar Khan, and driver Muzamil Shah were on board at the time of incident,” he said.

He said that all policemen except the driver remained unhurt in the blast.

Soon after the explosion, police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and launched search operation in the area.

On August 17, two policemen were injured when the van of Buner DPO was targeted with an IED in the same area. Buner DPO Khalid Hamdani, who was going back to his duty station from Swat, had remained unhurt in the attack.
