Swabi traders plan shutter down strike

SWABI: Anjuman-i-Tajiran Swabi city announced here on Sunday that they would observe a complete shutter down strike from Wednesday against the imposition of ‘unjust’ fines by the district administration on local traders.

The traders held a four-hour long meeting at the Swabi Adda Mosque and discussed the problems confronting them. The meeting was chaired by the traders’ body president Laiq Khan.

Mr Laiq told mediapersons that they had taken a unanimous decision and all the markets in the district headquarters would remain closed as a protest from Wednesday. “I could predict that no one would open his shop. This is our determination and collective decision, made in the meeting,” he said.

Answering a question, he said that the strike would continue till acceptance of their demand regarding stopping the practice of imposing heavy fines on them by the administration.

The traders’ leader said that prices of some commodities such as rice, pulses and others had been increased in the wholesale market, but the officials did not review the price list despite their request.

CADET COLLEGE OPENS: Captain Karnal Sher Khan Cadet College, Swabi, will open today (Monday) after remaining closed for 14 days, sources said.

On Sept 4, about 200 students of the college had fallen sick due to food poisoning and were taken to different hospitals in Mardan district. Soon after the incident, it was announced that the college would remain closed till Sept 18.
