Mysterious disease kills four children in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: A mysterious disease has claimed lives of four children while 40 others have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Charsadda. The casualties occurred in Inaam Kalley area.

The deceased children studied in the government primary school, Inaam Kalley.

Dr Ali, medical superintendent at DHQ hospital, told Dawn that the situation was now under control as the condition of the hospitalised children was out of danger as they were provided timely treatment.

The local people demanded of the provincial health authorities to send medical teams to the area to vaccinate children against the mysterious disease.

Meanwhile, district nazim Fahad Azam Khan, naib nazim Musawir Shah Durrani, DHO Nek Nawaz Khan, Al-Khidmat Foundation president Noor Hussain rushed to the affected area. They were told by the locals that the affected children first suffered from acute cough followed by throat infection. The affected children were facing difficulty in breathing, they were told.

The deceased children were identified as Shabeena (11), Aziz (10), Marva (8) and Abdul Aziz (10).

The district nazim said a free medical camp would be held in the affected area on Tuesday (today) to provide treatment to children. He said a team would be formed to find the nature of the disease.
