No reunion for Sporty Spice
First it was Victoria Beckham who didn’t want to be part of Spice Girls’ reunion (she has yet to make a statement), now its Melanie Chisholm, known to the world as Sporty Spice, has penned a piece for the UK’s Love magazine in which she said that she turned down a role in a potential Spice Girls reunion because “something didn’t feel quite right.”
“The hardest part for me was letting people down, the girls, the fans, civilisation,” she said. “Remember when a little bit of mystery and intrigue ensured our famous faces were true stars,” she said. “When we didn’t know what they were eating via social media, where they were or who they were hanging out with?”
She said that, at 42, she will “be a Spice Girl until I die,” but her focus remains on her own career as a singer/songwriter.
Chisholm also said the constant questions about another Spice Girls reunion have become particularly tiresome, especially since the group briefly reunited in 2007.
“The continuous speculation on whether we will reform to celebrate 20 years of ‘Wannabe’ has been particularly exhausting,” she said. “Why can’t we just be remembered for our incredible achievements in the nineties.”
While the other band mates, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell, reunited recently for a girl’s night out.
Angry Birds’ sequel!
Finnish game maker Rovio made a big bet on The Angry Birds Movie, and it seems to have paid off.
“We have started planning the sequel to The Angry Birds Movie,” Rovio chief executive Kati Levoranta said in a press release recently. No other details were offered by the company. The Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly-directed film has earned $347 million globally since its release last spring, making it the fifth-highest worldwide-grossing animated feature in 2016 to date.
Rovio Entertainment reported that even before the profits from the film had been accounted for, the company was profitable in the first half of 2016 with 76.4 million Euro in revenue during that period.
“With the excellent performance of our games portfolio and the fantastic movie, the Angry Birds brand is flying high ... ,” said Levoranta. “We currently have several exciting new games and other projects in development, including new IP.”
The new Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast fans got a first look at Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in Disney’s new sneak peak trailer for the upcoming live-action film.
In the video, Watson and Stevens are seen at a table read for the film, rehearsing lines as Belle and the Beast.
The sneak peak gives a more in-depth look at some of the film’s scenery and at two of its most beloved characters, Lumiére and Cogsworth, voiced by Ewan McGregor and Sir Ian McKellen.
The film is slated to premiere in theatres on March 17, 2017.
Croods 2 delayed!
Croods 2 was set to release in 2017 but sadly, Dreamworks Animation has pushed the release to 2018. The film is being delayed due to Comcast/NBCUniversal’s impending purchase of Dreamworks, which is expected to become official soon. Croods 2 should then become the first Dreamworks animated film distributed by its new corporate parent, Universal, rather than the studio’s current film distributor, Fox.
