Nandipur chief security officer in the dock

GUJRANWALA: The government claims to be pursuing a case against the Nandipur power project chief security officer who is alleged to have concealed facts about torching of the all-important record.

Sources told Dawn on Thursday that Chief Security Officer Rana Mehtab Alam, being complainant of the case, had a case registered with the Aroop police against his two security guards Imtiaz Khan and Salahuddin on the allegation of torching crucial record of furnace oil. Police also arrested them.

When Muzaffargarh power station inquiry team and other investigators recorded the statements of several officials including the storekeeper and senior clerk, they found out that the complainant of the case was concealing facts. He later went into hiding and got an interim bail from the Lahore High Court till Sept 24.

Sources said the Water and Power Ministry had forwarded a memorandum to the city police officer asking him to allow the project director to pursue the case as the complainant would be arrested soon.

A Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) inquiry team is expected to visit Nandipur on Sept 28 to conduct an inquiry.


Govt claims parallel inquiries are under way


POLIO SECURITY: The district administration claims that teams will be given protection by police during an anti-polio drive from Sept 26 to 30.

The administration would monitor the campaign throughout the district, District Coordination Officer Muhammad Amir Jan said at a meeting on Thursday.

He said police and civil defence volunteers would provide complete security to the teams. He directed the assistant commissioners to review measures in their jurisdictions and leave no stone unturned to ensure security for polio teams.

GANGS: The Civil Lines division police claimed on Thursday to have arrested 148 criminals including proclaimed offenders and seized booty worth Rs1 million from their possession during the first fortnight of September.

SP Muhammad Nadim Khokhar said 66 cases were registered against them, and a car, 29 stolen sacrificial animals, gold ornaments and mobile phones were recovered from them.
