Polio vaccination campaign starts
ISLAMABAD: A three day polio vaccination campaign started in the federal capital on Monday during which polio vaccines will be administered to 140,835 children under the age of five.
A monitoring system has been devised for the three days of the campaign and the two catch up days. About 600 teams have been constituted of which 453 are mobile teams, 53 are transit and 95 are permanent teams. The city has been divided into 21 zones with just as many zone in-charges and 107 area in-charges.
Speaking at the inauguration of the campaign at the Health Services Directorate, Islamabad Mayor and Chairman Capital Development Authority Sheikh Ansar Aziz said the eradication of polio is a national obligation and that the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad will collaborate with other organisations in order to ensure Islamabad remains a polio free city.
The mayor then led a polio awareness walk in which a large number of residents participated.
