Teachers challenge polio duty

ISLAMABAD: The next polio immunisation campaign may suffer a setback as some government teachers have refused to be part of any vaccination drive saying it was not included in their job description.

Six female teachers of the Islamabad Model College for Girls, Dhoke Gangal, challenged the vaccination duty in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and requested the court to set aside a notification issued by the district administration deputing the petitioners and 138 other female teachers on the national polio immunisation campaign.

After hearing the petition, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued notices to the deputy commissioner Islamabad, the prime minister’s focal person on polio eradication initiative, the secretary CADD, the district health officer and the mayor of Islamabad.

The court will take up the matter again on October 31.
