CJM, Nixor College clinch throwball titles

KARACHI:Convent of Jesus and Mary and Nixor College on Friday clinched the junior and senior throwball titles respectively here at the 7th Culligan Girls Throwball Tournament 2016, being held at The City School PAF Chapter.

CJM, one of the best sports outfits in the city, beat Shahwalayat School 2-0 in a lop-sided final to bag the juniors title. In the Seniors contest, a thrilling and hard fought final was played between Nixor College and Lyceum B which was won by Nixor 2-1.

Earlier, in the semifinals of juniors category, CJM had beaten City School DK Campus 2-0 while Shahwalayat School overcame stiff resistance from Aga Khan Garden to win 2-1.

In the semi-finals played in the Seniors category, Nixor College beat Aga Khan H S School 2-1 in the first clash while Lyceum B beat Habib Girls School 2-0.

Simon Wilson, principal of the City School PAF Chapter, and Shazad Pervaz Bhatti, director SSB were the chief guests at ther closing ceremonyand distributed cash prizes of Rs10,000 each among the junior and senior winning teams. Besides that, trophies and certificates were also awarded to other teams, their captains, coaches and managers.

Maheen Shaikh of Aga Khan School was declared the best player of Seniors group while Sara Thomas of CJM named the best players of the Juniors group.

The closing ceremony was attended by Adil Ahmed of Sindh Sports Ministry, Mudassar Arain president of PNF, coordinator Riaz Ahmed of City School PAF Chapter and Iqbal Ahmed, GM Culligan Pakistan. Later, Maqbool Arain, general secretary Asian Throwball Federation and PTF, thanked the guests and participants.

The tournament was organised by Sindh Throwball Association in which as many as 14 teams competed in the Senior Group while 24 teams participated in the Junior Group.
