Rage over fatal accident spills on to road in Kasur

KASUR: A vociferous protest erupted after an accident that claimed the lives of a woman and her son in a roadside accident on Multan Road on Thursday.

People residing in and around Halla bypass in the Pattoki police jurisdiction began protest after the bereaved family could not get the bodies even many hours after the accident.

Intizar Wali, 35, along with his mother Haleema Bibi, 60, was on his way to Pattoki by his motorcycle when a car hit them near Halla bypass. Haleema Bibi died on the spot while Wali suffered injuries.

Meanwhile, Jamil, the car driver, started beating the injured and some people rescued him and took him to the THQ hospital from where he was referred to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital in a critical condition. He died after some time.

People captured the driver and handed him over to police. The body of Haleema Bibi was sent to the THQ hospital for autopsy. When the families reached the hospitals, the administrations refused to hand over the bodies without legal formalities.

Later, when the family reached the Pattoki city police station, officials were allegedly reluctant to accompany them. The bereaved family and villagers gathered at Adda Jamber and blocked the road.

The protesters demanded action against the hospital administration and police and that the driver be handed over to them. They alleged that Wali died due to torture of the driver.
