Story Times: The weekly weird

Meow, there is a new cop in town!

There is no doubt about who is the cutest police officer in Australia. He may not catch many bad guys, but Ed, the ginger cat, definitely looks good in his uniform.

Specialising in ‘rodent control’, Ed has proved to be a valuable member of the team. Ed spends most of his time sleeping in the stables of Sydney’s Mounted Police Force.

Sergeant Kylie Riddell says, “We have troop horses here so we thought why not have a troop cat?

He struts through, past all the constables while they’re being given their daily duties.

“After that he patrols the stables while the grooms are mucking out. And usually after that, it’s nap time.”

Puppies in wedding instead of bouquets!

People can go to lengths that are hard to imagine. Sarah’s wedding to Matt Crain in the grounds of Moonstone Manor, in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, was a traditional white wedding, with six notable and very loveable exceptions. Instead of bouquets, the bridal party all carried puppies.

Because rescue dogs are a big part of the couple’s life — Sarah is a board member at Pitties Love Peace, a local non-profit organisation that aims to provides a safe haven for pit bull and pit bull mix dogs. She’s served on the Board of Directors as the secretary and primary dog trainer since 2011, when the shelter was founded.

She and Matt also have three rescue dogs of their own together and are constantly fostering the lost and found as they await their forever homes.

So Sarah decided to incorporate a litter of six Boxer-Coonhound rescue pups on her big day — by carrying them instead of bouquets in the wedding pictures.

The bridesmaids each had their own eight-week-old pup, while the bride held a nine-week-old rescue pup. The groomsmen also got to enjoy some puppy snuggles during the day. Wedding photographer Caroline Logan said the whole wedding party loved it and it helped relax everyone for the pictures.
