Miners find gigantic lump of jade worth £140 million

Miners felt like they had ‘won the lottery’ when they unearthed this magnificent piece of jade.

Weighing an incredible 175 tonnes, the massive rock, found in Burma, is the world’s most valuable piece of raw jade. Experts estimate it is worth £140 million — and the price per kg could be 20 times higher once it has been polished, giving it a potential price tag in the billions.

If you’re wondering why the rock isn’t a shade of deep green, fear not — its distinctive colour will come out when it is cleaned.

It’s a massive find for Burma, the world’s largest producer of Jadeit (mineral), with the industry representing half of the country’s GDP. Burma is likely to sell the rock to China, where it will be made into jewellery and sculptures.

Pumpkin weighing 1,910 pounds wins contest

An annual pumpkin-weighing contest in Northern California has a new winner: a third-grade teacher in Washington State who raised a giant one weighing 1,910 pounds.

Forty-two-year-old Cindy Tobeck said her pumpkin grew steadily since she planted it in April, spending much of that time in a greenhouse with heated soil. She said the secret to growing giant pumpkins is using the right seed.

Timothy Beeman, a spokesman for the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, said Tobeck beat out more than two dozen other pumpkins from Oregon, Washington and California. The runner-up weighed 1,723 pounds. At $6 a pound, Tobeck will receive nearly $11,500 in prize money.

This giant lobster will haunt your dreams!

Fishermen have caught a monstrous lobster reportedly brought in by Hurricane Nicole which reached speeds of around 115mph and wreaked havoc through parts of the Caribbean.

A charter boat from Bermuda was fishing for snapper when it landed the giant lobster weighing a staggering 14 pounds.

Sanctuary Marine Bermuda posted its catch on Facebook.

Although the lobster is seriously impressive, it doesn’t come close to the largest ever ensnared.

The world’s biggest was found in 1977 and weighed more than 44 pounds, according to the Guinness Book of Records. The lobster was put back in the sea.
