SWABI: Residents of Maneri and other localities staged a protest demonstration against low gas pressure and prolonged power loadshedding here on Sunday.

The protesters marched from Maneri Payan to Karnal Sher Khan Chowk in a procession while chanting slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited.

The protesters were led by local social workers Naveed Shah and Gogal Jan.

They said that despite claims by the leaders of ruling party and its coalition partners they had been facing the problem of low gas pressure during the peak evening and morning hours.

“Despite making pledges the provincial government has failed to deliver,” said Mr Shah.

Mr Jan said that the domestic consumers had been passing through a difficult situation and they were compelled to stage a demonstration.

The protesters said that they had also been facing prolonged power outages despite the end of summer season in which the Pesco officials pretended that there was heavy load on the system.

On the assurance of local police that they would convey about their problems to the authorities concerned the protesters dispersed peacefully.

GIKI LAUDED: A delegation of senior academicians of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) lauded the available facilities in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) of Engineering Sciences and Technology during their visit for mock accreditation of the Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Engineering Programme on Sunday.

The delegation was led by Engr Osaf Mahmood Malik, deputy registrar, PEC.

The other members of the delegation included Prof Saeedur Rehman of Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering, Islamabad; Prof Imtiaz Ahmad Taj of Capital University of Science and Technology, Islamabad; Prof Mudassir Farooq, Muslim Youth Unversity, Islamabad; Dr Mohsin Rehmatullah of Center for Advanced Research in Engineering, Islamabad; Prof Babar Saeed of Air University, Islamabad; Prof Kamran Afaq of HITEC University, Taxila; Dr Waheedul Haq of HIT, Taxila; Prof Abdul Ghafoor, National University of Sciences and Technlogy, Islamabad; and Mujeebur Rehman Khalil of PEC.

Members of the delegation also exchanged views with the academia of GIK Institute about co-curricular activities.
