Renowned mountaineer Hassan Sadpara passes away

Renowned mountaineer Hassan Sadpara passed away in Rawalpindi on Monday.

Sadpara was the only Pakistani to have climbed six of the world's tallest mountains including Mt Everest (8848m), K2 (8611m), Gasherbrum I (8080m), Gasherbrum II (8034m), Nanga Parbat (8126 m) and Broad Peak (8051m).

He was suffering from multiple diseases, including blood cancer and was brought to a private hospital in Rawalpindi, from where he was moved to the Combined Military Hospital for treatment on the directives of the prime minister.

He was diagnosed with cancer earlier this month. Hasan’s son Arif on Nov 8 had appealed to the government to shift him to the Aga Khan Hospital Karachi for better treatment. However after a delay of 12 days, his son was provided with an amount of Rs2.5 million on Sunday Nov 20, by the provincial government of Punjab for the treatment of Sadpara.

Talking to DawnNews on Monday, Hassan’s son Arif appealed to the government to facilitate the transportation of his father's body to their ancestral village in Skardu for burial.
