BAHAWALPUR: The federal ombudsman is set to open its regional office here, stated Federal Ombudsman’s Islamabad Secretary Pir Bakhsh Jamali on Tuesday.

He said opening of the regional office was in accordance with the government’s priority to provide speedy and inexpensive justice to the needy at their doorstep.

He said Rana Naseer Ahmed has been posted as regional head of the office, which would be opened soon on Gulberg Road in Model Town A.

Secretary Jamali also called on Commissioner Saqib Zafar, who assured him of providing necessary cooperation to establish the regional office here.

CLEANLINESS: The Bahawalpur Waste Management Company (BWMC) launched Zero Waste City Campaign meant to create awareness among the residents to keep streets and roads clean.

The drive was launched from city Union Council 16 where BWMC Chairman Samiullah Chaudhry and Managing Director Muhammad Naeem Akhtar swept the area. They were joined by over 150 sanitary workers and assisted by 15 mini-dumpers, four compactors with five trolleys.

The drive would be initiated in other union councils also. On the occasion, a public awareness walk was also organised by the BWMC from Seraiki Chowk to Fateh Chowk in Model Town.

DRILL: A mock security exercise to check the preparedness of security institutions and law enforcement agencies to combat any situation was carried out at Borstal jail.

Personnel of the army, special branch of police, Counter-Terrorism Department, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, Civil Lines Police Station and Borstal jail successfully conducted the exercise.

CARDS: MPA Fauzia Ayub Qureshi distributed VIP Status Cards among 70 teachers.

The holders of these cards would be entitled to special concessions at government institutions, official markets and restaurants for which the district administration had entered into an agreement with bodies of the commercial entities concerned.

WALK: An anti-corruption walk for public awareness was organised here, which was led by Bahawalpur division Anti-Corruption Director Tariq Bokhari.

The walk started from the anti-corruption office to Government Sadiq Egerton College. Later, a seminar against corruption was held at the college where speakers urged people to avoid indulging in corruption.
