Two guards killed in ambush on oil survey team

GWADAR: Two security guards were killed on Saturday when the survey team of an oil and gas company they were escorting came under the attack of militants in Pasni town, Gwadar district.

The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the incident, official sources said.

A team of the Coal Geophysical Company, under the patronage of the Oil and Gas Development Company, were carrying out a survey in the Dando area of Kolanch when they came under heavy fire. The security guards retaliated but two of them died in the exchange of fire.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Tufail Baloch told Dawn that the officials of the survey team remained unhurt.

Sources said that the attackers took away a vehicle of the company.

Assistant Commissioner Mansoor Gichki said: “The guards killed in the firing belonged to a private security company.”

Meanwhile, a BLA spokesman, Gohram Baloch, claimed responsibility of the attack.
