Waseem retains WBC title

SEOUL: Pakistan’s Mohammad Waseem on Sunday successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight title after defeating Philippines’ Giemel Magramo in Seoul, South Korea.

Known as ‘Falcon Khan’ for his swift boxing style, the 28-year-old outplayed Magramo in a tough 12-round fight.

The Quetta-born boxer put a dent on Magramo’s record who remained undefeated in his previous 17 bouts (13 knockouts) and previously held the WBC International flyweight belt.

Waseem, Pakistan’s first professional boxer, won the WBC silver flyweight title in July this year after defeating favourite Jether Oliva of the Philippines.

Waseem, whose ranking will improve further after Sunday’s fight, intends to challenge other recognised fighters. He is scheduled to return Pakistan shortly.
