Family reminisces Shabbir Sharif’s valour

LAHORE: The family, admirers and senior army officers on Tuesday paid homage to Maj Shabbir Sharif, a valiant warrior who displayed unparalleled courage while defending the motherland and laid down his life on Dec 6 at Sulemanki Sector during the 1971 war.

“He earned the highest gallantry award of Nishan-i-Haider and also enjoys the honour of being the proud recipient of Sword of Honour from PMA Kakul and Sitara-i-Jurrat during the 1965 War,” says an ISPR press release.

A battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment in which Maj Shabbir Sharif was commissioned, celebrates “Shabbir Day” annually with great solemnity and gratitude.

A contingent of the Frontier Force Regiment performed honour guard duties at his grave at Miani Sahib graveyard.

Maj Gen Fida Hussain Malik, General Officer Commanding, laid a wreath on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff and offered ‘fateha’.

Senior officers, former chief of army staff retired Gen Raheel Sharif and other members of his family were present.
