Pakistan badminton players reach quarters
LAHORE: Pakistan’s top players reached the quarter-finals of men’s singles and women’s singles at the Nepal International Series Badminton Tournament.
According to reports issued by the Pakistan Badminton Federation here on Wednesday, Rizwan Azam outplayed Duc Giung of Vietnam 21-17, 21-17 in the men’s singles event while Palwasha Bashir beat Nafha Nasrullah of Maldives 21-4, 21-8 in the women’s category to enter the quarter-finals.
Mahoor Shahzad also drafted 21-18, 21-19 victory against fourth seed Nangsal Tamang of Nepal to reserve a place in the last eight.
In the quarters, Rizwan will meet Abhisk Yelegar from India, Palwasha will face Aghaei Hajiagha of Iran and Mahoor will play against Devi Yunita Indah Sari of Indonesia.
In the men’s doubles quarter-final, Azam and Kashif Sulhari (Pakistan) will take on the Nepal’s pair of Dipesh Dhami and Ratnajit Tamang.
In the women’s doubles, Palwasha and Saima Waqas will clash against India’s Anoushka Parikh and Harika Veludurthi.
Pakistan team consisting of six players — three male and as many female players — is participating in this event.
